Activity Calorie Calculator

The activity calorie calculator can be used to determine the amount of calories burned for various exercises and activities. The calories burned are calculated using body weight, activity duration and METs (metabolic equivalent of task, or ratio of exercise metabolic rate). One MET is the rate of energy expenditure at rest, attributable to the resting (or basal) metabolic rate (RMR). This is approximately 1 kcal per kilogram of body weight per hour (expressed as 1 kcal/kg/hr).

All values are estimates and based on a prototypical 70 kg male, and energy expenditure is generally lower in women. Although the MET data used is from the most accurate source available, there are some obvious inaccuracies with some of the METs, for example the MET for surfing is the same as playing Frisbee and as any surfer will tell you, this is clearly not the case.

The activity calorie calculator will give you estimates of calories burned for the various exercises and activities.
